SAMANTHA ROBERTSON

Based in North Hampshire, Samantha splits her time between making ceramics in her studio at home with working in the adult education sector. She produces a range a of hand made terracotta planters and functional ware using wheel thrown and hand building techniques. Work is decorated in its raw state using slip decoration, with colours being layered through a variety of techniques including painting, stencilling, slip trailing and sgrafitto. Fired to earthenware temperature ensures that the richness of the terracotta clay provides a perfect backdrop for the vibrant colours of the coloured slip.

Over the last few years Samantha has developed her own range of forms and designs, which are intended to be practical, beautiful and tactile. A keen gardener with a love of the natural world this influences both the design and decoration process, with inspiration from wild and home grown flowers. Her interest in 1950s and vintage textiles comes through in the bold and graphic repeated imagery which surrounds each piece.

A relatively new strand to her work, but one which has proved very popular, at present Samantha is focusing on developing new forms and designs for the collection of planters. This will include some new cactus patterns and outdoor planters.
